BE BOLDER – our theme for the year (and beyond).
As you will have heard, Josh and I introduced the basis for our Vision for the church on January 15 at the morning services. The whole picture will be shared at our Australia Day breakfast. We trust you were able to join us. We are all in this together and will need prayer and using our Spiritual Gifts to see that our Church is prepared for all that God will do as we seek to reach out to our community and grow in our personal walk with Him.
Yes, it may sound overwhelming, but we serve a miracle-working God Who can do far greater than we can imagine, but we are His Hands and Feet – time is running out. We need to do all we can to give people an opportunity to respond to His call on their lives.
We need to learn to really trust Him, not just go through the motions of coming to Church and wanting the status quo, but to BE BOLDER and have our faith stretched, deny ourselves and take up our cross DAILY and follow Him.
Perhaps it’s been a while since you have done that, or feel you are too old and have served your time! God can still use you- prayer and support of others is vital if we are to see people won to Christ. There will be a cost – time, finances, getting out of the “boat”, our comfort zones, sharing our stories and being real, authentic Christians. People are wary (and I don’t blame them) of seeing Churches function contrary to God’s Word. We need to continue to welcome people we don’t know, show God’s love to those who are ”prickly” (they need it the most), AND WATCH WHAT GOD CAN DO. Remember, God uses ordinary people to do extra-ordinary things (if we are willing).
Romans 1:16 has been chosen as our verse for the year.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes…..”
I am sure we would all say we are not ashamed of the gospel, but when the crunch comes, do we speak out or do we shy away for fear of upsetting someone? God’s Word, the good news, has power – because it is God’s Word to us. Our commission is to pass it on, to make disciples, baptise them, and teach them in the way they should go. What an awesome task He has given us and how it would change our community.
I am already hearing of people reaching out and one lady responding to God, and other opportunities opening up. Let us remind you of the acrostic Josh put together.
Please be in prayer as we embark on this new year (a month has passed already). That we will all be BOLDER as we INTENTIONALLY FOLLOW CHRIST in a spirit of unity and love one another so that people will know we are His disciples.
