Josh’s Blog – July 2016

Hi Church,

A few weeks ago the Creative Ministries Team took part in a day long song writing workshop. We were blessed to have Katisha Lindee, who is Sheridan’s sister, come and teach the team some pointers of writing music, lyrics, melodies and how to put it all together to form a song. It is quite an involved process with much trial and error, changing and undoing and redoing!!! But what a great process to go through. To start with an idea, to put words to that idea, and then to refine that idea so that it makes sense and flows was rewarding. Here’s a few excerpts from a few songs that were started on that weekend:

  • Song:
  • More of you less of me may your name be glorified as I’m set free.
  • More of you less of me may your name be glorified as I’m set free.
  •
  • Your love washing over me.
  • Your love deeper than the sea.
  • I praise you, for all you’ve done for me.
  • It’s by your grace and love that I am free.
  • Song:
  • As the sun comes up and cuts across the dawn.
  • As the ocean ebbs and flows.
  • We’re reminded once again of who you are.
  • O Lord, we’re in awe.
  •
  • Before the world began, you called us all by name
  • The promise of a Saviour to take away our sin.
  • The power of your Word, released to give us hope,
  • O Lord, we’re in awe.
  •
  • You are mighty and awesome God, we praise you, we praise you.
  • By your words you made the light, we exalt you.
  • Creator of the universe, we praise you, we praise you.
  • By you breath you gave us life, we exalt you.
  • Song:
  • In my pain you answered, in my fear you heard,
  • Listened to my cry as I stand on your word.
  •
  • Let your peace wash over me, in the current of your grace I sing, Jesus.
  •
  • Lord I give my soul, You have captured my heart.
  • My rescue, Redeemer, You have set me apart
  • Let your peace wash over me, in the current of your grace I sing, Jesus.
  • Song cont.
  • Jesus, Jesus, I look to you, your all I need, Jesus.
  • Jesus, Jesus, I look to you, your all I need, Jesus.
  •
  • May your word light my path, I’ll trust in you.
  • May your word light my path, I’ll trust in you. Jesus

I know that these lyrics probably makes no sense to you and we have a lot more refining to do, but we are really excited by the potential that we have to write songs for the Lord that reflect our love for him and truths of the faith found in his Word.

We mightn’t be up to lyrical status of King David, but the Lord has given us a song to write and to sing. It is our hope as a Creative Ministries team to be able to write of the good things he has done and to one day share these things with you in a song of worship to him.

Josh
